TEKO – A Swedish Fashion Delegation Visiting LA

During Sunday to Tuesday the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles hosted a delegation from the biggest employee- and industry organization for textile- and fashion companies in Sweden – TEKO. The days were filled with interesting company visits, meetings and seminars with focus on the textile and fashion industry in the U.S.
The delegation was a first time and unique collaboration between SACC-USA, SACC-LA and SACC-San Francisco. After the meetings in Los Angeles the delegation travelled along Highway 1 to continue the agenda in San Francisco.The program in Los Angeles aimed to give an overview and understanding of the American and Californian market space with trends and predictions in the textile- and fashion industry, as well as insights on sustainable value chains and the future of textile production and manufacturing.TEKO met with: California Fashion Association, Sustainable Fashion LA, speaker Taryn Hipwell, Patagonia and learned more about 3D printing from Julia Koerner.

Julia Koerner is a successful architect and member of the UCLA faculty. Julia has recently done a big project involving a 3D-printed dress, which she presented for TEKO. See examples of 3D-printed dresses below. “Additive manufacturing technology is mainly used in Medicine and Car Industry but has become more and more of an interest to the design world,” says Julia Koerner and continues“Especially in textile and fashion design it addresses cutting edge design possibilities and emergent techniques of manufacturing clothes.”
