the 8th of March

Inspired by the campaign Spring140131 and the Swedish National Day of Running the SACC-LA crew has decided to participate in the LA Big 5K, which is the official warm up race for the ASICS LA Marathon. You are all very welcome to join our 3.1 mile journey through the rolling hills of scenic Elysian Park.
Our plan is simple; we all meet up before the race and do a warm up session with the professional “Friskis&Svettis” trainer Carina Guter, directly imported from Stockholm, Sweden. After the race we celebrate our achievement with a small potluck picnic close to Dodger Stadium.

Johan Ernst Nilson

Famous explorer and motivational speaker

WhatJohan Ernst Nilson Motivational Lecture
Hosted by SACC-LA
When: In mid-April
Where: TBD

Life is all about finding your dreams and reaching your goals, Johan Ernst means. When Johan Ernst was 15 years old, he saw a man playing the piano on the TV. He asked his parents what he needed to do to play like that and they told him to stay motivated and to practice. Three years later Johan Ernst had a job as a professional pianist. To learn how to play the piano was Johan Ernst’s first “adventure”. Johan defines an adventure as anything that takes you out of your comfort zone.

The Johan Ernst Nilson motivational lecture is an exclusive event hosted by The Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles. With over 30 expeditions in over 120 countries, Johan Ernst Nilson is one of the world’s leading explorers and motivational speakers. He will teach the audience about how to stay focused and pushing your limits in order to achieve your dreams.

The lecture will be held mid-April in LA and more information will be provided soon. In the mean time you can read more about Johan here.

Johan Ernst Nilson started his career as an explorer and motivational speaker 20 years ago after a bet with a friend. The question was: Could a person with the lowest grade in gymnastics bike from Sweden to Africa?

The SXSW South by Southwest Music Festival

The SXSW South by Southwest Music Festival returns to Austin, Texas, between March 7-16. The festival is really divided into three divisions; music, film and interactive.
The music festival focuses on bringing up new acts and over 2000 performances are confirmed for this year, making it the largest music festival in the world of its kind. The last couple of years it has had over 15000 visitors and in 2013 the event made a huge jump to over 30000 paying attendees.
Rebecca and Fiona at the Eliason Merit Award 2013
The film part of the festival focuses on directing talent and many movies have their first screening here. In 2009 the festival gained a lot of attention since the world premiere for â€œThe Hurt Locker”, which later won the Academy Award for Best Picture, was held here. This year the festival will be screening the new and much anticipated Swedish House Mafia documentary â€œLeave the world behind”.
The interactive part of the festival features five days of compelling presentations and panels from the brightest minds in emerging technology, scores of exciting networking events hosted by industry leaders and an unbeatable lineup of special programs showcasing the best new websites, video games and startup ideas the community has to offer.
What also makes the music festival unique is that even though the artists have to cover their own expenses for travel and lodging the festival manages to attract some of the biggest bands and artists in the world. We have some amazingly talented Swedish artists performing at SXSW too. Rebecca and Fiona, who we all know from last year’s Eliason Merit Award, and Sofia Talvik will be performing among others. See the full list of Swedish bands playing SXSW 2014 here.
At the event, in booth 1023 and 1024, you will find the Swedish Boot Camp and Sweden @ SXSW, where you have the opportunity to connect with other creative Swedes at the festival. The Swedish American Chamber of Commerce in Austin also hosts two events on Saturday March 8th and Sunday March 9th, which also are great occasions to make new social and business connections.
